The most famous attraction in Flåm is
the Flåm Railway, which brings you
from the center of Flåm at sea level to
Myrdal station at 867 meters above
sea level. It is one of the steepest
standard gauge railway lines in the
world and one of the most beautiful. It
is 20 km long, has 20 tunnels and took
20 years to build before it opened in
1940. The journey takes about 1 hour
each way, which includes a short stop
at a magnficent viewpoint.
Ride the famous Flåm Railway from
Flåm to Myrdal and back. The trip lasts
about one hour each way and stops
for a few minutes at a breathtaking
waterfall where a hulder dances in the
shadows of the mountains
It is also possible to combine the train
journey with a hike or bike trip back
down to Flåm. The train has storage
for bikes which can be rented in Flåm.
It is also possible to rent bikes at
Myrdal, but remember to reserve
these up front. The journey down is
spectacular, with waterfalls, steep
serpentine turns, small beautiful
farms and the mountains.
If you arrive Flåm by car, bus, boat or
cruiseship, this is a great alternative to
experience this amazing stretch of
railroad, bringing you up to an altitude
of 867 meters at Myrdal and down to
sea level again. Stop at the waterfall
where you can watch the "hulder"
dance in the shadows of the waterfall.
The trip takes about one hour each
way, with a small pause at the top
station Myrdal.
