You may have noticed it on your way in to Flåm by your
cruise ship, the remote, small and pittoresque village
by the fjord. This is Undredal.
Undredal was one of the places Disney visited and used
as a model for Arrendale, Elsa’s village in the movie
Frozen. It is known for its small stavechurch which
dates back to around 1150 and still is in use. Undredal
is also known for its chese factory, Undredal Stølsysteri,
which produce white and brown Undredal cheese.
The village can be reached by boat or car. Local tour
operators arrange a half day trip to the village, but you
can also rent a Renault Twizy and go by yourself - about
10 minutes drive from Flåm (including a 6 km long
tunnel).
If you sign up for a fjordsafari with one of the RIBs, one
of the tours they offer include a stop in Undredal with a
visit to the stavechurch and the cheese factory,
including some cheese tasting.
